Can dogs eat lunch meat

Can dogs eat lunch meat?

Hi, I’m going to be cooking a beef and chicken meal on a camping trip for 2 adults and 2-5 year old kids. I am worried about them eating chicken due to possible parasites. If there is any way to get them to eat chicken (e.g. they just had breakfast, lunch, etc) that would be great! If not, I’m thinking just the beef. I will also pack them all some fresh fruit for dessert and I’m also considering making dessert as well (fruit cake and peanut butter). Would they enjoy dessert?

This will be our first trip, so I want to make sure they have a good time as well as my sanity.

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi there,

I know it is a little bit later, but there is a good chance someone else may have had this problem. I am not a vet, so I would appreciate it if anyone else could chime in. Thanks!

When I went camping with my dog and kids, we ate lots of meat (chicken, beef, turkey, etc.) and we had dessert every single day. The kids ate it (mostly cake or cookies) and the dog ate some of it. She was very hungry and liked it! The kids also loved to play with the dog and she loved to chase the kids.

I would make sure to take some of their treats when you are eating together. I think it is very important for kids to see how good food tastes and how good the food is for them. I also packed them fruit or vegetables (banana, carrots, apple, etc.) as a snack.

Yes, the kids will enjoy dessert. They will not want to leave home without dessert. They will eat it if you give it to them. I would not worry about them eating chicken.

I am also bringing home made dinner rolls. These can be good for an after dinner snack. They are not very filling (about 150 calories) and I think the kids will enjoy them.

I don’t see a problem with you taking chicken for them. You will have to serve it at a certain temperature and that can be difficult for kids. I would not want them to get sick from chicken, so make sure they keep it chilled.

I also would not want to serve chicken and then take it off the grill and serve it hot. This could kill any parasites you might have. It is always easier to keep them cold or keep the grill on low (with the lid off) when you cook it.

Also, I would make sure they wash their hands before and after handling the chicken. You do not want to get any parasites on the hands.

I would take the meat and the chicken that you plan on cooking. I would try and serve it before dinner and again at dinner. You could serve the leftovers in the morning if they are not consumed before dinner.

Hope this helps. Have fun!

PS: If you are planning on eating the chicken and beef yourself, then make sure you wash your hands first.

Thanks for this information! I think I’m going to try this! I have one more question for you. My kids (5 year old twins) would like the food as well as the dogs. Do I have to give them different things or do I just give them some of everything?

The reason I ask is that I don’t think I’d like to give my kids a full meal just for themselves. I’m hoping they’ll eat enough to feel satisfied.

I did read your answer to a similar question. I also wanted to mention that I’ve also read about the issue with chicken. The problem is that when you cook it, you cook it until it’s cooked through. If you do that, then there is nothing to eat left and the only way to get rid of it is to cut it up and throw it in a bag for later or to get rid of it. I think they are going to be disappointed if they are only eating half of the chicken because that’s all they’re going to eat.

You could give them a little bit of chicken. You might be able to convince them to try chicken.

It is really hard to get kids to try new foods. It helps to have the dog around and see them play with her and see how good the food tastes. If they like the taste of chicken, they will eat it.

If you do not want to give them the chicken, then I would serve the chicken as a side dish and you can serve them some fruit or vegetables for dessert.

I would make sure to give them a little bit of everything. My kids loved to have me make a little bit of everything and see if they liked it. They liked chicken, meat, and desserts.
